Aiming at the limitation that the bridge deformation measuring system based on single-axis fiber optic gyroscope cannot be used for horizontally curved bridge structure, a new method is proposed for bridge deformation measuring of horizontally curved bridge or track based on single-axis fiber optic gyroscope. Firstly, the principle of linear bridge deformation measuring based on single-axis fiber optic gyroscope is presented. And the error source of gyro and the difficulty of curved bridge detection are explained. The feasibility of curved track measuring by single-axis fiber optic gyroscope is analyzed according to the navigation algorithm. Then a curved test track was built and a set of track inspection trolley with wireless acquisition system wass assembled. The horizontal curve of the home-made curved track was measured manually for consequent experiments. Finally, the experiments under different test stages were performed to verify the feasibility and accuracy of the proposed algorithm. The results show that the method can identify the precise deformation of curved rail under different test stages with an accuracy of less than 1mm. Owing to the simplification of the inspection setup and the economic cost of the deformation measuring, the proposed method and the corresponding setup will provides a new approach for the massive deformation inspection of various large-scale bridges without closing bridge or stopping bridge transportation.
