Abstract:Since Allen et al confirmed the physical concept and connotation of photon orbital angular momentum(OAM) theoretically for the first time in 1992, beam with OAM brings a new thought for space division multiplexing (SDM), combining it with the optical fiber communication system can solve the problem of communication capacity and speed. In recent years, optical fibers with orbital angular momentum beams have been designed to gradually realize the characteristics of more stable OAM mode transmission, longer transmission distance, and more OAM modes that support transmission. Starting from the theory of mode superposition of optical fibers, this article mainly analyzes the current research status of fibers used to transmit orbital angular momentum beams, including ring fibers designed based on traditional fibers and circular photonic crystal fibers based on photonic crystal fibers, and so on, The research results, advantages and disadvantages and suitable application scenarios of different types of optical fibers are compared and analyzed. Finally, the development prospects of optical fibers with orbital angular momentum beams are further prospected.
