Abstract:The edge-based finite element method was introduced to analyze the cutoff wavelength of the dominant mode and single-mode bandwidth of four types of dielectric-loaded double ridge waveguides with ridges on the short side. The four types of waveguides are double rectangle-ridge waveguides, double trapezoidal-ridge waveguides, double V-ridge waveguides and double elliptical-ridge waveguides. Simulation results show that the transmission characteristics of the four kinds of waveguides with ridges on the narrow side are generally similar, and their cutoff wavelength of the dominant mode and single-mode bandwidth are much smaller than those with ridges on the wide side, moreover, the change trend of transmission characteristics is more intense when ridges are on the wide side. These numerical results are considered to be helpful in the design of microwave components and subsystems.
