Abstract:The propagation properties of the TE oscillating guided modes in a taper slab waveguide with anisotropic metamaterials were investigated. Through Maxwell equations, the dispersive, reflection coefficient, transmission coefficient and power loss equations were obtained. Then, some characteristic curves were plotted and studied in detail. It is found that, firstly, for different mode number (i.e., m=0,1,2), the effective refractive index employs larger values and decreases rapidly at first as waveguide length increases; secondly, the maximum of the reflection coefficient is near 0.967; thirdly, extra small transmission coefficient |ct|2≤1.2×10-3; fourthly, as the slope k is 0.01, for different frequency f, the power loss Δp/p≥0.998, but, for different k, as f= 5.0GHz, Δp/p≥0.98.
