Abstract:The electrical feature and thermal behavior of concentrator solar cells were described. The characteristics of silicon concentrator solar cells and recent progress on silicon concentrator solar cells were reviewed, including back contact silicon concentrator solar cell, laser grooved buried contact silicon concentrator solar cell and other silicon concentrator solar cell with a conventional n+/p/p+ structure. Finally, the latest developments of multi-junction concentrator solar cells were reported in detail, which included the present status of the cells and major losses of Ⅲ-Ⅴ multi-junction solar cells, as well as the key methods for realizing super high-efficiency multi-junction solar cells. According to the current research progresses, the electricity cost of PV power systems will be reduced in the near future by developing concentrator solar cells with new structure and high efficiency.
