Abstract:A simplified inter-satellite optical communication link was modeled. The optical background noise and amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) noise were considered into the link, and the method of improving the inter-satellite optical communication performance was introduced by using the FEC technique. The coding and decoding characters of fountain codes were presented, and the fountain codes were utilized in the optical link. The simulation results show that, the fountain codes have a higher improvement on the performance compared to the RS codes, and the improvement is more obvious along with the increase of signal to noise ratio (SNR).
