Abstract:Absorption characteristics of one-dimensional heterostructure photonic crystal containing negative index materials were calculated with the transmission matrix method. It is found that the heterostructure photonic crystal can exhibit unilateral absorption peaks. The results show that the frequency ranges of the unilateral absorption peaks are determined by the band gap structures of each constituent photonic crystal. Moreover, the absorption in unilateral peaks is found to be higher than that in the pass bands of the structure. The results can be used to design the photonic devices with unilateral absorption and enhance the light absorption of photonic crystals.
