Abstract:Based on dielectric substrate with high dielectric constant, a miniaturized microstrip antenna with the size of only 16mm×12.45mm was designed with the techniques of grooving the patch and microstrip feed. By loading the high impedance surface around the patch, the surface wave was suppressed effectively and the antenna performance was improved, then a multi frequency and miniaturized antenna based on photonic band gap (PBG) was realized. Simulation results obtained by HFSS show that, the microstrip antenna based on high impedance surface structure has three resonant frequencies: 2.74GHz, 2.86GHz and 3.80GHz, and the corresponding gains are 6.02dB, 8.83dB and 5.69dB, respectively. The antenna based on PBG owns the characteristics of smaller size, good radiation performance and multi-frequency, which can provide reference for practical communication applications.
