A current transformer based on double Fiber Bragg Gratings was designed, for which two FBGs were pasted onto the giant magnetostrictive material (GMM) and Monel alloy material respectively. The FBG-GMM was placed in the magnetic circuit system to act as a current transformer sensing head, and the FBG-Monel was used as the demodulation component and temperature compensation device, then the current measurement and temperature compensation could be achieved simultaneously. The theoretical analysis and experimental results show that the measurable range of the current transformer is 0.3~12.6A, and the sensitivity can reach 6.812×10-3nm/A. The current transformer with the features of low cost and simple structure is suitable for small current measurements.
