According to the requirements of satellite laser switching network, an on-board resource reservation protocol based on data burst stream was proposed combining the ground resource reservation methods. First, traffic prediction is used to differentiate the data burst into single burst or burst stream according to the destination and QoS. Then resource reservation is accomplished successfully. To validate it, mathematic model of mean end-end delay, throughput and link utility is established. From the comparison results of analysis and emulation, the protocol performance is better than other methods by lowering the reconfiguration time and switching time of optical switch matrix, so the new resource reservation protocol meets the requirements of satellite laser communication.
